Healthcare is the most important aspect of a living, functioning society. Within the Aurora colony of Mars, healthcare is of the utmost importance. The colony will require a physical health check every two weeks while also requiring a certain amount of physical exercise per week. Since the colony is more research-based, it should not be difficult to meet such requirements. Because gravity on Mars is roughly 38% of Earth’s, muscles and weight mass will be harder to manage; however, they can be managed based on exercise and physical activity and a healthy and well-sustained diet. With diets being mentioned, it is worth noting that there will be food choices to cater to a wide variety of palates. However, the primary focus will be on healthy fruits and vegetables, and correct portioning will be essential. Diets will not be necessarily mandated but will be HIGHLY recommended. Another frequently asked question is whether there will be consequences for someone who disregards the health of their body? Not necessarily. We cannot force everyone to eat healthy, but we will absolutely require exercise. With hopes of sending colonists back home for continuing research, they will need to keep their muscle mass to help fight against Earth’s gravity.

Unfortunately, colonists will experience some type of isolation, stress, and confinement at some point in their lives due to many factors. Life on Mars will have an increased effect on those of the colony. The heart will ache and yearn for what it knows, and the majority of colonists will be “homesick”; however, we have options and requirements to hopefully minimize the effects regarding those components. To start, there will be required mental health meetings and check-ins once every two weeks to address some of the issues a colonist might be facing. These meetings will be held in groups due to human communication having benefits regarding mental health. We will have open-windowed rooms that allow natural lighting to explore all corners of the room. Art has also been proven to have positive effects on a person’s mood, so art will be present in the rooms as well. There will be 24/7 mental services accessible to everyone in the colony by professionally trained personnel who are more than prepared and ready to assist with any challenge faced
