Mars will have exceptional views like no other. Different sunsets from those of Earth, the red, rocky terrain against the blue-lit sky makes a marvelous view for those roaming the floor of the colony; however, the heart will always yearn for what it knows. The views of Earth are unmatched, from forests to mountains, and to the beaches along the coasts. The view of Toledo by El Greco captures just that. View of Toledo, or “Vista de Toledo” in Spanish, captures the beauty of one of Earth’s best landscapes of a city view. This reminder can help cherish the memories created on Earth and help treat the feeling of being “homesick.” This painting will be a great addition to the Mars colony due to its significance towards human life, especially those who are more likely to miss their original home.

 Fighting Temeraire depicts the HMS Temeraire of the British Navy being towed by a steamed paddle ship in order to be scrapped. This represents new technology replacing old and reflects on how things once seen as great, such as the HMS Temeraire, can be phased out by more advanced technology, such as the steam-powered boat carrying the HMS Temeraire to its demise. This correlates to the astronauts leaving Earth and advancing to colonization on Mars. The old Earth that has harbored humanity for thousands of years is being replaced by something new: Mars. 

Mona Lisa can be argued to be the most studied and recognizable painting in human history. The 500-year-old painting represents a sense of timelessness and continuation of the human spirit. The painting was also created during the Renaissance, a time when science, art, and curiosity rose into popularity. Humanity colonizing another planet will also mark a new age of technology, like the one Mona Lisa was created in long ago.
