Agriculture

Green House Module

Each greenhouse module will be handled by technicians trained in the field, and automatic monitoring systems can analyze nutrient balance, water usage, and growth rates in real time. Economically, it would operate as both a food supply and a research sector. Vital to the colony’s survival and development, surplus produce could even be traded within the settlement, promoting internal commerce and fostering a sense of shared responsibility. Educational programs would be able to continue teaching how to monitor these plants, ensuring continual innovation. As the colony grows, the size of these sectors can increase to enhance production

Hydroponic Sysytems

Hydroponics offers the most efficient and controlled means of growing crops. Using nutrient-rich water solutions rather than soil, hydroponic systems can maximize yields within limited space while minimizing waste, making it the ideal method for the enclosed Martian habitats. The infrastructure would be integrated into the building itself, having rooms dedicated to agriculture, enough to sustain the whole colony safely.

Water

Water used on the colony will be recycled from the support systems on the colony, which will be purified, oxygenated, and infused with essential minerals, creating a closed-loop nutrient cycle to sustain food consumption

Crop Selection

Beginning in the early years, the crop selection will prioritize fast-growing, high-yielding plants such as leafy greens, tomatoes, and potatoes since these provide both sustenance and psychological comfort
