Arcadia Planitia & Alba Mons

Resource Availability

The region has significant underground deposits of water ice, which can be used for drinking water, breathable oxygen, and rocket propellant, a crucial component for making the city self-sufficient and allowing return trips to Earth.

Terrain & Climate

The flat terrain is perfect for landing spacecraft smoothly. The lower altitude helps slow down spacecraft, which is crucial for spacecraft containing humans. Due to its latitude and lower altitude, the region experiences somewhat warmer summers and winters compared to other areas, helping to moderate the extremes of Martian weather.

Underground Access

All volcanoes on Mars are inactive due to the planet currently having no geological activity. Utilizing Alba Mons's ancient lava tubes as our new home base would have many benefits. The underground tubes will act as a natural insulator against extreme temps and high radiation levels.
